Wilkinson stores called upon Caswell Engineering to design and install, test and commission a full smoke extract system from the basement, ground and first floor retail areas. Each floor had its own dedicated smoke extract system. Each system comprised, smoke extract fans (run & standby), Firesafe Fire rated ductwork, smoke dampers, grilles, control panels and associated electrical Services.

Caswells used our own Firesafe trained installation teams to ensure the product was installed to our rigid specification and this was inspected at every stage by our appointed Project Manager, culminating in a certificate of conformity being issued on practical completion. Firesafe Fire Rated ductwork was installed both internally and at roof level which involved a major crane lift requiring a road closure in this very busy part of the city.

A major challenge in itself was in ensuring the installation was done within the construction programme which involved a large amount of demolition and construction. Our smoke extract control panel automatically activates on receipt of a signal from the stores fire alarm system and will remain activated until overridden by the fire brigade or rest following periodic testing of the system.
